We receive all of our TV over the air (from an antenna). This product gives us TIVO like functionality without any monthly fees.
We can store TV shows (both analog and digital) to disk for future viewing and use the instant tape to pause a live show.

Purchased this machine to replace a failed Panasonic..VCR/DVD with a tuner. This new machine is in a whole different class. The 160gb drive is much like a Tivo machine.. Setup, programming and dubbing are all very straightforward and work smoothly. Tuner is equally as good or in some case better than the Sharp Aquious LCD TV it is hooked to. I purchased this unit for my father as a replacement for his VCR. He is 77 years old and needed something simple to operate. This unit was an excellent choice. It was very easy to setup and easy for him to learn to use.
I have only two minor complaints.
My first complaint was that the unit would not let you use high speed dubbing to DVD if you use a different recording format than you originally used to record the program to the hard drive. We recorded a two-hour program ... Read More

We have had this unit for 3 weeks now and are very pleased. This unit is not as full featured as those with an on screen TV guide but it works well for a no fee DVR service. Just select shows to record similar to the procedures used to record on a VCR. Select time, channel and frequency and this machine will capture the show. You can edit and skip commercials. Great machine for the money and fee free service!

I read a number of review on this site before purchasing this item. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this unit will record a program and play back a pre-recorded program at the same time. Based on reviews here, I got the impression that it would not do that. I was wrong, it does. Also, I have no problem recording a program and watching another using my digital tv.
